A message from Ric Schorer

President of Wighton´s

The past few weeks and days have been hard for us to take our eyes off the headlines, as phone alerts and 24-hour news reports give continual updates on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. I’m sure many of you are feeling the same way, a little overwhelmed. We know you are grappling with how to keep “life as usual” as the world around us is anything but “usual”.

Our thoughts are with those who have been affected by COVID-19. As our own community and those around the world are struggling with COVID-19, we are closely monitoring updates and recommendations from the CDC and our local health officials. We know you rely on Wighton’s when emergencies happen and as always, we want to be here for you.

We have taken increased steps, as outlined on the CDC website, to ensure we can continue to serve you while protecting your health and the health of our employees.

Clean your hands often

  • Our technicians use one-time-use, disposable shoe covers and gloves, and are taking precautions to clean tools and equipment.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

Avoid close contact

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Put distance (6’) between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your community. This is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick.

Stay home if you’re sick

Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care.

Cover coughs and sneezes

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow.
  • Throw used tissues in the trash.
  • Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, clean your hands with a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcoho.l

Clean and disinfect

  • Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
  • If surfaces are dirty, clean them: Use detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.

Cleaning Solution Options include

  • Diluting your household bleach. To make a bleach solution, mix: o 5 tablespoons (1/3rd cup) bleach per gallon of water OR o 4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water Follow manufacturer’s instructions for application and proper ventilation. Check to ensure the product is not past its expiration date. Never mix household bleach with ammonia or any other cleanser. Unexpired household bleach will be effective against coronaviruses when properly diluted.
  • Alcohol solutions. Ensure solution has at least 70% alcohol.

Updates

  • Technicians, as well as our office staff, have been briefed on safety practices within our customers’ homes/offices and on CDC’s recommendations for how we interact with one another.
  • Our employees are closely monitoring their own health. To date, there have been no reported cases of an employee exhibiting symptoms related to COVID-19. In the event there is any individual who is presenting symptoms or fear they may have been exposed, they will be self-quarantined, along with any employees they’ve been in contact with.
  • Our technicians wear one-time-use, disposable shoe covers and gloves, and are taking precautions to clean tools and equipment.
  • If we don’t shake your hand, we mean no offense. We just want to minimize the spread of germs to keep everyone healthy.

We are here to help you with all your heating, air conditioning, and healthy air solutions. Please call if you have any further questions or comments Thank you.
