Beat the Summer Heat – Money Saving Tips to keep your Air Conditioning System Running Efficiently this Summer:

Heating and Cooling costs the average homeowner about $875 a year – nearly half the home’s total energy bill. Here are some tips to lower utility bills, save energy, increase efficiency, and keep you comfortable when running your AC:

· Make sure the AC Unit itself is clear and free of debris, trim back any leaves or shrubs that may be covering the unit.
· Keep your AC Unit in the shade.
· Have your AC serviced annually – routine maintenance keeps your equipment running safely and efficiently. · If your AC is more than 12 years old – have it replaced. Most AC units have a 10-15 year lifespan. If you are running an older model, it is highly unlikely to be running efficiently – replacing it with an ENERGY STAR certified model could cut your cooling costs by 30%. You may also qualify for a tax credit or rebate for replacing your AC.
· Keep your thermostat at 78 degrees. Each degree lower than 78 degrees increases energy consumption by about 8%! If you are comfortable with a warmer indoor temperature, you can save about $8 a month for each degree your thermostat is above 78.
· Keep your AC on during the day, just turn the temperature up. The AC system has to work harder (less efficiently) each time it starts up to get to your desired room temperature. Your energy costs will be lower, and comfort level higher, by leaving the AC system on during the day and adjusting the temperature.
· Check your filters. When running your AC daily – circulating dust & allergens, filters need to be changed as often as once per month. If your filter is clogged and dirty – the AC system will need to work harder to push cool air through.
· Use, or consider installing, ceiling fans to work with your AC to help push the cool air down.

Meet our Service Leader Dave Meehan’s pup Malu, short for Polomalu, one of the best strong safeties in the NFL….in Dave’s opinion. Malu was born in September of 2012. He does not know how to bark, his best friends are the birds and squirrels that eat out of his dish daily. The foods he enjoys most are BBQ’ed pig snouts and pig ears…(and whatever else I got going on the grill). He is a definitely a people lover, loves children and loves all the attention anyone could give him.

COVID-19 Special! Making your own Mask

We’ve all been seeing all the posts & “how-to” videos on making masks to help protect the spread of COVID-19. Our very own Kim Schorer received a great mask pattern from her daughter, and we’ve included it below for you! Use the 2” x 2” reference box to get the pattern to scale, then print it out for use as your sewing pattern!

We found these 2 YouTube videos to be helpful in creating the mask:

Helpful tip! You can use bias tape for ties rather than elastic so you can adjust as tight as needed.

Pet Corner

Since the onset of COVID-19, our loving pets are sure helping us all to get through these challenging times!

Meet Hubbie & Gajee.

Born December 10, 2019

Our Dispatcher, Holly, returned home from vacation last December to quite the surprise: a new Mama & 2 of the cutest, most different little pups she had ever seen! Hubiie is the “Mini Golden Retriever” and Gajee is the “Lil Weenie Dog”.

Hubbie is rambunctious and wild, while Gajee is timid and cautious. Their personalities are ever changing. After the stress and frustration of potty training, ruined shoes and never ending holes in the grass, the pups are finally settling into their new lives. From personality to physical attributes they couldn’t be more opposite and Holly LOVES it. At almost 6 months old now, every day is a new adventure that definitely keeps Holly on her toes.
